GLORIA'S MUSIC

TAMPA CONCERTS

HOWDY. WELCOME TO MY BLOG.

The Blog's purpose is help spread the word about the TAFEE Concert series, the Concerts in the UU Dome series, & add'l concerts which I help organize and/or wish to help publicize.Concerts are catch as catch can -- No set schedule.

TAFEE = Tampa Acoustic, Folk, Etc., Enthusiasts. It's not an organization per se; just a name I came up w/to identify the concerts. TAFEE Concerts are held at Skipper's Smokehouse on occasional Tuesday nights (TAFEE Tuesday) and also occasionally at Jimmy Mac's Restaurant in the Banquet Room.

"Concerts in the UU Dome" are held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tampa. For directions, etc. check out the church website at http://www.uutampa.org/ . There's also a concert schedule at the web site.

I'm chair of the Concert Committee at the Tampa UU, am on the board of Friends of Florida Folk http://www.foff.org/, am a fan of acoustic blues and contribute the "Acoustic Connection" column to the Twelve Bar Rag, a bi-monthly publication of the Suncoast Blues Society http://www.suncoastblues.org/ . Please support folk & blues by joining both the SBS & FOFF. Also, be sure and check out the extensive state-wide calendar of folk-related events at FOFF's website.

APRIL/MAY/JUNE 2005 CONCERTS:

Sun/Apr 17/3pm/$5. UU DOME. RONNY ELLIOTT with JOHN HANCOCK opening. http://www.ronnyelliott.com/ About Ronny's latest release "Valentine Roadkill:" The acclaimed hillbilly soul singer from Tampa slips out a new one filled with tales of Huey Meaux and Phil Spector; Elvis and George Jones; Lord Buckley and Jack Kerouac; and Peace & Love. One can expect to hear Ronny doing lots of selections from this latest/maybe greatest recording yet, plus a few great selections from previous recordings too. JOHN HANCOCK has been knocking around Tampa town for years as a sound-man, musician, sandwich maker, you name it. Don't know nuthin' about his sandwich making talent, but truth is -- he's a mighty talented musician. John cites Ronny Elliott as one of his musical influences.

Sun/Apr 24/3pm/$10. UU DOME. THE ROWAN BROTHERS (Lorin & Chris Rowan) with BILL BLYMILLER & FRIENDS OPENING. www.rowanbrothers.com

The Rowan Brothers are touring in support of their latest CD "Now & Then" (BOS Music) which is a two disc, 30-year, career-spanning retrospective, including performances from Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Phil Lesh, and others.

Although their brother Peter is more of a house-hold name than Lorin & Chris, the two younger boys will appear at the UU Dome sans Peter. No problemo, though, as Lorin and Chris can more than hold their own with their versatile and exciting mixture of bluegrass-flavored folk and Everly Brothers style rock and country.

BILL BLYMILLER & FRIENDS WILL OPEN. Within the UU Tampa membership we have some very talented, crowd-pleasing musicians/entertainers. Bill Blymiller and a couple of other talented "insiders," will provide an opening set.
