12:30 to 2:30: FOFF will have its annual membership meeting with the business portion winding up at approx 1:30. At that point we'll welcome Elaine McGrath, Events Coordinator, Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, who will tell us all about this year's Florida Folk Festival which is taking place at The Park over Memorial Day Weekend. And then - TA DA! from 2 - 2:30 we'll welcome our keynote speaker AMY CAROL WEBB, who will talk to us about "The Life & Times of a Florida Folksinger."


At 2:30 we'll take a break for some Birthday Cake (Happy 28th Birthday to Friends of Florida Folk) & we'll also set up for the Folk Festival which is to kick off at 3pm.

3:00 till closing: Refreshments available for purchase, including Chili & Cornbread between 5:30 & 6:00. Additional Adequate breaks for stretching provided.

Sun. Feb 7. 2pm. NOTE - 2pm Concert. DOUG SPEARS in Concert with special guests Hannah's Whirl & Jim Mason. Cost: $10. Doug, a popular singer-songwriter-guitarist, is currently on tour in support of his latest CD project "Welcome Home." On Super Bowl Sunday his tour vehicle (bus, van, volkswagen?) stops at our doorsteps for a Super UU Dome Concert. Never Fear. The concert will be over well before kickoff time.
With sand in his boots and orange blossom honey in his throat this fourth generation native has Florida roots flowing through his music revealing the history, values and perspectives that define him.
Special guests Hannah's Whirl and Jim Mason are also on the bill. Hannah's Whirl is Paul Arnone & Tami Wingard, a talented local singer-songwriter duo. Jim Mason is a music industry veteran with many accomplishments, including, for starters, co-writing the Peter, Paul, and Mary hit "I Dig Rock-N-Roll Music" and singing backup vocals on recordings with the likes of John Lennon and Alice Cooper. Now Nashville based, Tasmanian Singer-songwriter Audrey Auld's music is described as Country, Folk and Americana. She is a memorable and uplifting entertainer, a spontaneous comedienne, a writer of humorous, provocative and soulful songs, and also the 2006 MerleFest Song Contest winner. Per Fred Eaglesmith (with whom she has toured): "Audrey Auld is a great singer songwriter. She holds a unique place in contemporary Americana/Roots music. March 11, Thursday, NORA JANE STRUTHERS at a South Tampa House Concert. Accompanying her will be Christian Sedelmyer on fiddle, mando and vocal harmonies. Singer-Songwriter-Accomplished Guitarist Nora Jane Struthers delivers a powerful live show complete with flat-footing,yodeling and original songs so clearly rooted in old time and bluegrass that audience members walk away with the feeling thatthey've seen something old and new, and utterly unique. Nora Jane is classic Americana. Last year she was a top ten finalist inthe Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour competition. Also last year at the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop, WV,she won the Best New Song competition. March 18, Thursday, WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY? A CLANCY IS IN THE HOUSE? OH MY!Aoife Clancy at a South Tampa "Post St Patty's Day" House Concert. Aoife is pronounced ee-fa (sounds like Eva with an "f").Aoife comes from the small town of Carrick-on-Suir, in Co Tipperary, Ireland. Her musical career began in childhood when herfather, Bobby Clancy of the legendary Clancy Brothers, placed a guitar in her hands. Fast forwarding to 1995, we find theenchanting Aoife joining "Cherish the Ladies," one of the most sought-after Irish American groups in history. During her 5-yearswith Cherish, 6 cds were recorded, including one with the Boston Pops which was nominated for a Grammy. Aoife has been a featuredsoloist with the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops and the Mid-town Kansas Symphony. April 28, Wednesday, DANNY SCHMIDT at a South Tampa House Concert. Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt draws comparisons to Leonard Cohen,Townes Van Zandt, and Dave Carter. Upon winning the prestigious Kerrville New Folk award in 2007, Sing Out Magazine declared Dannyas "the best new songwriter we've heard in 15 years." Although his musical influences draw from deeply-rooted Appalachian mountaingospel to haunted English balladry, from syncopated Piedmont country blues to vagabond 60's protest folk-stumpery, it all boilsdown to just great songwriting in a singular style all his own. Claude is an AMAZING! jaw-dropping guitarist & also an entertaining singer-songwriter -- He may not have much name recognition around here - but trust me - he is not to be missed. To say he wowed us last time he stopped by for a STHC, is an understatement. Plus he, his wife & son are delightful people.
